WordPress Hosting

I’ve had a lot of clients and customers over the years ask me about where they should host their WordPress site. Out of all the hosting providers I’ve worked with, I usually end up suggesting the same three since those are the ones I’ve used to host my personal sites.

Bluehost

When I started my first website, I opened an account with Bluehost. They were suggested by a friend and I couldn’t have been happier with their service. For $5 a month I got unlimited sites, bandwidth and storage. I was able to play around with that hosting account and learned a lot about web development. After a while, being on a shared server wasn’t providing me with enough memory to support my sites efficiently, since some were now getting a lot of traffic. Media Temple

If you’ve visited a lot of sites, especially web development blogs, you’ve probably seen the Media Temple logo being advertised. Their branding is everywhere and it’s awesome. Plus they host tons of important sites. I signed up for one of their DV accounts and got my first introduction to a VPS (virtual private server). It was a lot to take in since I had to figure out how to manage it all myself, but I prevailed and in turn, it totally helped improve my site’s stability and up-time. Honestly, it made me feel like I was finally playing in the big leagues. After a while, the demands of my sites and the limited knowledge I had of system administration ended up being a bit too much for me to handle. Since my VPS was unmanaged, I decided looking into a managed VPS would be more up my alley. At that time, Media Temple didn’t offer a managed solution so I ended up looking elsewhere.

I honestly don’t remember how I came across Site5 but I sent in a couple of support questions and got a response super fast, which made me feel like they might be right for me. Their managed VPS seemed to have everything I needed and once I signed up my sites were once again running smoothly. Which is right for me?

Each of these hosting providers offer different services for every types of website. The one that’s best for you will depend on the amount of time and money you want to spend and what level of traffic your site receives. If you do a bit of research you’ll find both positive and negative things about every web host in the world, but in my opinion the three mentioned above offered me the best service. Looking through their sites now, I see they all offer shared hosting as well as managed and unmanaged virtual private servers. Some even have cloud-based hosting, which I have never used but might just be the right things for your website. Check them all out and do a bit of research to see which is the right fit for you.
